Blauer Engel

All paper grades used in KIT's central print shops are Blue Angel certified. We deliver our print products with an e-car. For large orders, we turn to a Blue Angel-certified framework contract partner throughout the entire printing process, who prints with organic inks and has much more to offer in terms of sustainability.

Recyclable FOREX rigid foam boards

Sticker Forex plate "Bring me back"

FOREX rigid foam boards, which are used at events as stands, signage or signposts, are lightweight, very stable, lightfast, weather-resistant, flame-retardant and self-extinguishing. They are finished exclusively with removable film in the Media Production department, taken back after use and freshly covered for reuse. We will indicate this with a request to return the panels to us.

Sustainability in campus gastronomy

Organic coffee

The Casino Campus North has changed its complete offer to organic coffee in catering, the bistro and guest casino areas since 02.01.2022.

Our coffee is:

  • Rainforest Alliance - certified
Coffee plantations must meet sustainable agriculture standards that commit them to environmental responsibility, social justice, as well as economic sustainability.
  • Organic - certified
The organic certificate guarantees that the coffee harvest follows the production methods prescribed by European standards.
  • Handpicked for optimal quality
Only the ripest coffee cherries are handpicked to optimize the organoleptic characteristics of the blend.

Climate change is a real threat to coffee: It can affect the quality of the beans and causes a gradual decline in the area under cultivation. Our coffee is a premium selection of organic Arabicas from Africa and Central and South America. Here, the producer trains coffee growers in agricultural techniques that can help them counter the effects of climate change.

DGE "JOB&FIT" certification

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Ernährung e.V. (DGE) (German Nutrition Society) confirms that Casino Campus Nord offers lunch and snacks in its staff restaurant that meet the required criteria of the "DGE Quality Standard for Catering in Companies".

The quality areas were checked:

  • Food of a lunch and snack (quality and frequencies)
  • Meal planning & production
  • Hygiene aspects / legal framework / QM system
  • Living environment

All meals and products are marked with the Job&Fit logo in the menu, as well as in the award.

What is the aim of the DGE quality standard?

The DGE quality standard supports the catering managers in designing a health-promoting and sustainable catering offer in at least one menu line in the company. Thus, the table guests can choose from a corresponding offer in the context of breakfast, snack and lunch.

The DGE quality standard describes, based on current scientific data, the criteria for optimal, health-promoting and sustainable catering. Each company can implement this quality standard at its own pace, step by step. Every improvement in the quality of catering means healthier and more sustainable nutrition for employees. The majority of the criteria relate to the design of the catering. These criteria are presented along the process chain with the five steps of planning, purchasing, preparation, serving, and disposal and cleaning. These process steps offer both the potential to significantly influence the nutritional quality of food and beverages and to set a central course for sustainable nutrition.

BIO Certification

Casino Campus Nord has obtained BIO certification in accordance with Article 29(1) of Regulation (EC) No. 834/2007.

You can recognize our BIO products in the menu by the "*".

Disposable packaging made of sugar cane fiber

From a small side salad to a schnitzel, we can offer you all our dishes in sustainable disposable packaging for takeaway. At Casino Campus North, we place great importance on sustainability and therefore use packaging materials made from sugar cane fiber.

When sugar cane is juiced, a large amount of fiber is produced - a residual material that has remained unused until now. However, this biomass is extremely valuable for the production of natural disposable tableware and packaging. The packaging material made from sugar cane is light and yet very stable. At the same time, it is water-resistant, suitable for cold and hot dishes, and can be used in and can be used in the microwave, oven and freezer. The 100% biodegradable packaging material according to EN 13432 is produced close to the raw material source to reduce transport distances to a minimum and additionally protect the climate.

Reusable tableware to go

Additionally to the sustainable disposable packaging made of sugar cane fibers, you can also take your food away in high-quality reusable dishes for a deposit of 10 euros per dish.

This is the next step towards sustainable packaging and a further reduction in packaging waste. For more information on reusable dishes and how the deposit system works, click here.

E-CARtering

We use an electric car for deliveries to events at KIT. The car reaches a top speed of 85 km/h and has a range of 80 km. The continuous/peak power of our e-car is 34 kW/ 48 kW.

The vehicle has a hygienic and food-grade cargo hold with a capacity of 5.68 cubic meters. It is designed to transport food in accordance with the requirements and regulations of the Food Hygiene Regulation and HACCP standards.

Receipt on thermal paper

blaue Kassenbonrollen

In our cash register systems, we use thermal paper that is made of a base paper from the sustainable wood industry. Instead of a chemical reaction to heat, the development of writing on the thermal paper is a purely physical process. The opaque functional layer of the paper becomes transparent under the influence of heat and the underlying black layer becomes visible.

The thermal paper is approved for direct contact with foodstuffs and can be disposed of in waste paper with a clear conscience after use.

The writing on the thermal paper is resistant to sunlight, which means that the receipt can be stored for at least 35 years without fading. This eliminates the need to copy sales slips. In addition, the paper is resistant to plasticizers and can be placed in plastic sleeves without any problems.
